An Overachiever of the Wrong Persuasion
Okay, so, more thoughts on FotJ: Outcast.

I really, really love this book to a degree that kind of surprises me. And in between commenting to comedownstairs about it this morning and then driving to work, it kind of hit me why. Spoilery stuff back behind the cut, yo. And yeah, probably a lot of Tahiri again 'cause this is me.

Seriously, do you realize how many kickass women are in this book?Collapse )

I'm pretty sure there's more I'm still missing. You might get another post. Heh.

Okay! As promised, the actual in-depth, spazzy, tl;dr-y, spoilery, all-over-the-place and gleeful review of Aaron Allston's new Star Wars: Fate of the Jedi book, Outcast.

Which, yes, for those of you guys who've seen on Twitter or saw yesterday's post, I kind of love a whole lot. Which is a huge freaking relief, because the first (and thankfully very wrong) spoilers that comedownstairs gave me a couple of months ago made me keysmash for weeks. And while I do honestly enjoy Legacy of the Force and have reread at least some of the books a few times (though with Karen Traviss's it's usually been skimming, because OMG, Traviss, your Mandalorian obsession scares me) there was a lot about that series that drove me up the wall. And then new spoilers started coming out, and I started feeling better about it, and then there were more spoilers and I just got intrigued, and then still more spoilers and I ended up just spending the past couple of weeks in a flaily. grabby-hands mode of nonstop spaz. Um. Apologies to those of you who've had to deal with that. *g*

And so far, FotJ looks to be a huge improvement over a lot of the things that frustrated me about LotF. Plus it's Allston, and I love the dialogue he writes. So apologies to those of you who've had to deal with my flaily glee since yesterday afternoon.

So, behind the cut, in-depth blathering. Bear in mind this is from the point of view of someone whose two favorite characters in post-RotJ EU are Jaina Solo and Tahiri Veila, and they don't suck any more, and the people on TFN who wish both of them would DIAF can bite me.

. . . okay, you know what? There's gonna be a lot of blathering about Tahiri back here. I'm sure the FH contingent on my flist is shocked or something, really.

I'd like to make out with Aaron Allston now, thanks.Collapse )

At any rate, I am happy. Exceedingly. And bring on the next book, baby.

OH HEY GUYS GUESS WHAT DAY IT IS.

I have the new Indigo Girls album (and on my first listen-through I'm really liking it), and my bookstore is holding a copy of Fate of the Jedi: Outcast for me to get my eager little paws on in just a few hours.

It's a good day. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

That I totally woke up at 2 AM all excited about. And hit up Amazon MP3 to buy the new IG album right away. (Still think Poseidon and the Bitter Bug is pretty o.O as a title though.) And checked my email to make sure B&N had confirmed my preorder. Which they had.

I went back to sleep for two hours after that, but STILL.

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D

ETA: ALSO. OH MY GOD. SOMEONE BUILD ME THIS.

Randomly, I wonder about and kind of fear what would happen if Alison Krauss and the Decemberists ever collaborated.

Oh, the potential for gleeful, tuneful morbidity.

Frak-all only knows how many people on my flist have done this now, but I think the last I saw it was either from christinenj, crazylike_afox, or lizbetann.

Step 1: Put your music player on shuffle.
Step 2: Post the first line (unless the first line reveals the song title) from the first 30 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing.
Step 3: Strike through the songs when someone guesses both artist and track correctly.
Step 4: Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is CHEATING!
Step 5: If you like the game, post your own!
I'd like to note that this took me forEVER, because 3/4 of the stuff it came up with was either in a different language, had the title right there in the beginning, or was an instrumental. AUGH.

Lyrics back here!Collapse )

I collect cover songs and such, so guess carefully on some of these. Also, anyone who gets #30? I may love you forever.

Coworker to me just now: "So, how many Americans do you think Bush's package will be stimulating?"

X.X

ETA: No, he didn't actually realize the implications of his wording until I blurted out, "Oh my GOD, could you PLEASE rephrase that?"

Trying to find a pattern in things? Yeah, this is an appropriate way to break in this icon. *g*

Take the first sentence of the first post of each month of 2007. The result is the summary of your year.

January: . . . good lord, that was some hilariously beautiful crack.

February: *FLAIL*

March: The 49th and final task of Boukenger, "The Endless Adventure Spirits," has been subbed and released.

April: I did not, as it happens, wake up from a fairly sound sleep at 3 AM last night.

May: First off, happy birthday, lkwreader!

June: Dear Certain Sections of Fandom,

July: Man, I am seriously just . . . I don't know if this is super-extended PMS or what, but I am so freaking bitchy today.

August: So yeah. I have no intentions of going anywhere.

September: This, depending on how you look at it, is crackfic: it's BSG's Samuel Anders, Charmed's Cole Turner, and their kid.

October: Watch me shamelessly abuse that time difference thing, yo.

November: Thanks to everyone for the birthday wishes yesterday -- if I missed personally responding to anyone's post, I'm reallyreallyreally sorry.

December: [None. Because I haven't yet posted this month. *is slacker*]

I think it's telling that the first three months of the year are summed up with me talking about GoGo Sentai Boukenger, and three of those are me talking about birthdays, and the rest is me being bitchy or on crack.

That kind of sums it up perfectly, really.
